Services Available

Prosecutors:  The Unit will assist prosecutors in the served counties with obtaining and analyzing digital evidence.  The Unit will work with prosecutors to develop search warrants and subpoenas, will interpret digital evidence, and will provide courtroom testimony as needed.

Law Enforcement:  The Unit will provide support and training to law enforcement officers in your county.  We will assist in the investigation and prosecution of cases with digital evidence.  We will provide guidance and forms for subpoenas, consents, search warrants, and other investigatory documents.  The Unit will provide the following training upon request:

  1. Where digital evidence may be found during a criminal investigation;
  2. How to properly collect digital evidence;
  3. How to properly handle, store and submit the digital evidence; and
  4. How to interpret the results of the Unit’s analysis and present this evidence in Court.

Digital evidence is both commonplace and plentiful, so the Unit will not be able to process every piece of digital evidence gathered in every case.  Except in limited circumstances, the Unit will accept and process digital evidence in felony cases only.  Director Minnick will establish case priority based on information provided to the Unit and assign cases accordingly.  To request expedited processing, please call Director Minnick for assistance.

Evidence Submission

The Monroe County High Tech Crime Unit uses Monolith Forensics for case initiation, evidence submission, and data management.  Prosecutors and law enforcement may access the website at https://app.monolithforensics.com/monroe-county-htcu.  When submitting a device, please include proof of a legal basis for the search of that device, such as consent to search or a search warrant, which can be uploaded through the Monolith portal.

The Monroe County High Tech Crime Unit’s digital forensics lab is physically located at the Ellettsville Police Department at 1406 Guy McCown, Ellettsville, IN 47429.  This is where law enforcement personnel will bring evidence.
